Using (& now owning) the URSA CINE 12K LF // surprising.
I recently took a trip to Burundi, Africa to shoot a documentary for a non-profit. I also just recently picked up the Ursa Cine 12K LF.
This is all naturally lit. No diffusion, no floppies or flags. Just positioning.
The range of the highlights and shadows is insane. The first day after reviewing footage - it hit me like a wave. Could not recommend this system enough. YouTube's compression kills me but it is what it is (15th upload).
This is a series of shots from 144 frames a second. We wanted to represent the people with dignity. It felt right.
The Vespid lenses outperformed my expectations - I also have the Arles but chose to use the Vespids because they were lighter and I was surprised at how well they performed. They will definitely be a go-to for me in the future. The large majority of filming I stuck on the 40mm. I think I’ve determined it’s my favorite focal length on full frame. It’s very versatile. Right enough for a portrait and wide enough to establish the viewer. (I think we see 42mm with our eyes, so I suppose that makes sense.) The 75mm impressed me on moving parallax shots out the car. The sensor readout is insanely fast so that paired with a tighter lens for these moving shots - it’s a wonderful pairing.
The rig itself was on the higher end of the threshold for the EZ rig minimax, yet once wearing it my mind was on anything but the camera. Didn’t feel it. Just allows me to be in the moment and fully present.
Let me know if you have any questions on the rig.
